When the Problem Starts in the Brain,
the Solution Has to Start There Too
Dr. James Powell has spent 27 years helping people move better and live without pain. The BrainFirst Method is what he built for the cases that didn’t fit neatly into that picture.

The Story Behind BrainFirst
Over 27 years of practice, Dr. Powell noticed something. Some patients got better — their back pain resolved, their neck loosened up, they went back to the activities they loved. But a smaller group kept coming back with problems that wouldn’t fully resolve. Dizziness that nobody could explain. Migraines that laughed at every treatment. Kids who couldn’t sit still or focus. Anxiety woven so deep into the body that it lived in the muscles and gut.
The thing these cases had in common wasn’t the symptom. It was the source. The brain and nervous system weren’t coordinating correctly. And no amount of adjusting a joint was going to fix that on its own.
So Dr. Powell spent years studying functional neurology — the science of how the brain governs everything else in the body — and built the BrainFirst approach around it. BrainFirst doesn’t ignore the spine or the muscles. It adds the brain as the starting point. When the brain is assessed and addressed first, the rest of the body responds differently.
BrainFirst Health & Wellness is Dr. Powell’s dedicated practice for this work. It runs out of the same office, with the same team. But it uses different tools, different assessments, and a different care model — one designed from the ground up for complex, whole-body problems.
Who BrainFirst Is For
BrainFirst is the right fit for people whose health picture doesn’t respond to standard care — or whose symptoms don’t fit neatly into one diagnosis.
Dizziness & Balance Problems
Vertigo, chronic dizziness, and balance issues often trace back to a brain-body coordination problem — not the ear or the spine.
Migraines & Persistent Headaches
When migraines don’t respond to standard treatment, the trigger is often neurological. BrainFirst assesses the brain systems involved.
Post-Concussion Symptoms
Brain fog, light sensitivity, and lingering symptoms after a head injury need brain-centered care, not just rest.
Children’s Focus & Behavior
When a child can’t focus, sits still, or regulate their emotions, the brain’s coordination systems are often the root cause.
Anxiety & Nervous System Dysregulation
Anxiety that lives in the body — racing heart, gut issues, chronic tension — often has a neurological driver that can be directly addressed.
Unexplained Chronic Conditions
Health problems that haven’t responded to multiple providers or approaches are exactly the cases BrainFirst was built for.
The Five Systems Approach
BrainFirst doesn’t look at one body part. It assesses five interconnected systems — because that’s how the body actually works.
Neurological
Brain and nervous system coordination — the master control system for everything else.
Neuroemotional
The link between brain, emotions, and physical symptoms — often the missing piece.
Cellular
How well cells communicate and generate energy — the foundation of healing.
Biochemical
Nutrition, hormones, and inflammation — what the body runs on.
Structural
Spine, posture, and movement — still important, just not always first.
27 Years of Chiropractic. One Natural Next Step.
Dr. James Powell has practiced in Tifton, Georgia since 1997. In that time he’s built Powell Chiropractic Center into the most trusted chiropractic practice in the area — and watched thousands of patients recover from back pain, neck pain, and the everyday injuries that slow life down.
BrainFirst is what he built for the harder cases. Not a replacement for Powell Chiropractic. An expansion of it — for the patients who needed more than a great adjustment.
“I’ve been adjusting spines my whole career. BrainFirst lets me start one step earlier — with the system that controls the spine in the first place.”
